A Book That Gave Me Permission to Be Me

I’ve never connected with a book the way I did with Soundtrack of a Misfit. It felt like Rachel Leigh Wills was telling my story in a way I never had the words for. As someone who has struggled with ADHD and always felt out of step with the world, this memoir helped me stop seeing myself as a problem to fix. Rachel’s honesty about addiction, emotional overwhelm, and finding her voice after years of shame was raw and powerful. What really resonated with me was how she used music and nature as tools for healing. Those are lifelines in my world, too. I appreciated that she didn’t present recovery or self-understanding as quick or clean. It’s messy, it’s human, and it’s worth it. I walked away from this book feeling lighter, seen, and a little more hopeful about my own journey.
