If anyone understands what it means to face uncertainty, navigate change, and come out stronger on the other side, it has to be Petra Lohmeier.

Petra is not just the author of “So You Need a New Job: Also called: “Now what??!,  she is the living example of what it means to embrace transformation with both intellect and heart. With decades of international experience spanning law, change management, sustainability consulting, and even the arts, Petra has carved out a path that defies traditional boundaries.

Her career began in the structured world of corporate law, where she qualified in both Germany and England & Wales. From there, she worked as a legal adviser and change management consultant for some of the largest companies in the world, including seven of the top international investment banks. Her work regularly took her across borders and industries, from London to Frankfurt to Vancouver, tackling legal complexity, automation, risk management, digital transitions, and post-Brexit restructuring.

But Petra’s story doesn’t stop there. Beyond boardrooms and briefings, she spent years volunteering for environmental and animal welfare charities, organising events, rescuing wildlife, and supporting global causes like tree planting and soil restoration. Whether she was advising on legal templates or packing parachutes for the Army Parachute Association, Petra brought the same mindset: practical, mission-driven, and deeply human.

That diverse experience is the reason her book stands apart.

“So You Need a New Job: Also called: “Now what??!” [HA1] isn’t just about finding another paycheck. It’s about reimagining what work can look like in the 21st century. Petra has seen firsthand what happens when people resist change: businesses stagnate, projects fail, and morale plummets. She has also witnessed the transformative effects of people embracing it: teams thrive, businesses expand, and individuals discover new confidence and meaning.

That belief in the potential of transition is what inspired Petra to write this book. Drawing on her years of coaching executives, guiding teams, and helping workers adapt to change they didn’t ask for, she created a thoughtful framework for personal career reinvention. The book includes a self-guided system that encourages readers to clarify their goals, assess their work preferences, and design a path forward based on real reflection. It helps readers identify what to prioritise, what to avoid, and what kind of roles will truly support a fulfilling work life.

Petra has applied these strategies in live projects, including high-pressure situations where government-mandated restructuring left entire workforces unsure of their future. She didn’t just deliver change; she coached people through it to transform their careers.

And that is the same wisdom that is now distilled into her writing. Her life has been one of giving back. Through Nevelle UG, the consulting company she leads, 50 percent of net profits go to causes ranging from wild cat rescue in Spain to saving children from trafficking. Petra knows that business, purpose, and sustainability do not have to conflict. In fact, they can enhance each other when approached with intention.

Clients and colleagues describe Petra as knowledgeable, generous, and unwaveringly direct. Her experience as a stage actress, known as Phyn Nevelle, adds another dimension to her communication style. She knows how to hold a room, but more importantly, she knows how to guide people through the waves of change.

So when Petra Lohmeier writes about career transitions, she is writing from lived experience, tested strategies, and a clear vision for a better kind of work. Whether you’re leaving a job by choice or by force, her book is a guide to help you reframe that disruption as an invitation. Her book and years of dedication and insight will help you find a new mission. And in a world where work is changing faster than ever, that’s exactly what we need.

Petra was also the director of several companies in the United Kingdom, including Network Rail CP Finance (an affiliate of Network Rail) and Nevelle Limited. She founded her first company in 2014 in the UK, providing consultancy services to FTSE 500 companies, primarily in change management. Today, she is the director of Nevelle UG (haftungsbeschränkt), the successor company to Nevelle Limited and Change Implementation Management Limited in Europe. While Nevelle UG still offers consulting and coaching, its focus has shifted to keynote speeches, educational talks, and courses centred on change management and win-win solutions between humans and the natural environment.
