Margaret reacts strongly when April shows interest in wearing the pendant and her fear becomes even harder to dismiss after April’s friend Alice wears it and is killed in a tragic accident. Margaret finally reveals what she has desperately tried to keep hidden: she believes the pendant is cursed and connects it to the death of April’s own mother.
For April, the explanation sounds impossible.
For Margaret, coincidence stopped being an acceptable answer long ago.

The De-Ver family’s history reaches back centuries and the Hall carries disturbing stories about the women who lived within its walls. A Mystery Inspired by Something Real
Adding another intriguing layer, Deborah Wales reveals that the Hall in the novel was inspired by an actual hall she explored during childhood. Even the pendant has a real-world inspiration: Wales discovered one in a charity shop and knew it would someday become part of a story.
