Whenever global tensions rise, cultural moralities shift, and natural disasters dominate the news cycle, many of us come to a halt and think, “Are we living in the final chapter?” With many of the Biblical prophecies already fulfilled and many signs being displayed, the call for the final hour could be nearer than we think. We know the world is becoming more chaotic, with wars, conflict, puberty, global turmoil, and increasing sins, with each new day, we come closer to another doomsday prediction coming to the forefront, and as per many faith-related people, we are already living in the end times. So, should we fear???
Scripture regarding the end times is not meant to fill our hearts with paralyzed fear. It is designed to awaken our spirits, sharpen our focus, and draw us into a deeply vital relationship with God, be it anything related to these prophecies. So, the question we should be asking ourselves is, where do we stand right now with our Creator?
When we look around the world today, the parallels to biblical warnings are striking. The Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy describing the character of the latter days: “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to have to do with them.” (2 Timothy 3:1–5, NIV).
Reading that description feels remarkably like opening a modern news feed or scrolling through social media, as our culture is increasingly saturated by self-absorption, hostility toward absolute truth, and a relentless pursuit of fleshly pleasure. Yet Jesus gave us clear instructions for navigating these turbulent times. In Matthew 24:42, He warns us: “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”
To “keep watch” does not mean sitting idle, hiding away from society, or panicking. It means living with deliberate, intentional spiritual readiness. It requires us to examine our hearts and honestly evaluate the things we allow into our lives. The Bible explicitly calls us to turn away from the destructive patterns and unrepentant sins that separate us from holiness. The scripture urges us to strip away malice, deceit, hypocrisy, greed, bitterness, and the moral compromises that slowly harden the conscience.
In fact, in Romans 13:12–14, the Apostle Paul issues a clarion call for spiritual awakening: “The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.”
If the final hour is near or even if our own numbered days on earth come to an end sooner than we expect, we should be getting ready for it with grace, so when we are presented to Jesus on His second coming, we would be able to join His army to fight the antichrist and establish the Kingdom of the LORD. When we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
So, do not wait for a crisis to force you to evaluate eternity. Take a moment today to quiet your heart, examine your life, and realign your steps with God’s Holy Word. Choose to step away from the transient, empty promises of this world and anchor your hope securely in the One who conquered the grave. Let the thought of the final hour inspire you not to fear but to live passionately, purely, and faithfully for Jesus Christ.
